SCG Enterprises, Inc. provides wastewater treatment products and services throughout Colorado, southern Wyoming, and northern New Mexico. SCG specializes in smaller (less than 100,000 gallons per day), innovative and alternative onsite wastewater systems.
Design Assistance
The company’s president, Roger J. Shafer, P.E. is a registered professional engineer with an MS degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Roger has been active in the onsite wastewater industry since 1982 and has been involved in the design of thousands of systems. When providing design assistance, SCG matches products and technologies to address wastewater treatment problems and goals. Our strategy starts with defining design criteria such as flow rates; water-use practices; and wastewater characteristics. Then we consider performance criteria such as treatment efficiencies and discharge limits. We work with design engineers to develop a treatment process to match the design requirements.
As a distributor for nationally renown manufacturers: Orenco®, Xerxes®, Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation and Geoflow™, we sell the ProSTEP™ Effluent Pumping System; Vericomm® Control Panels; the AdvanTex® Treatment System; Sanitron™ Disinfection Units; Wasteflow® Drip Systems; and FRP underground storage tanks, as well as many other products. We specialize in using these products and their associated technologies to develop complete wastewater treatment systems from source generation to effluent discharge.
Installation Assistance
When construction of the project is ready to begin, we often take part in pre-construction meetings. Working with the contractor, we time equipment delivery based on the contractor’s schedule. We also perform site visits to assist the contractor with equipment installation. The goal of our construction visits is to ensure the proper installation of the equipment, to create a successfully operating system.
Operation and Maintenance Assistance
Once the system is ready to be placed into operation, we assist the operator in performing start-up procedures to ensure the equipment is properly installed and operating. Our operation and maintenance assistance varies from simply providing technical support to the system operator, to providing system monitoring with the use of remote telemetry.
Training Workshops
SCG also performs training workshops for engineers, installers, operators, and regulators. Training sessions often consist of a half-day classroom setting followed by a field trip to observe the operation of various technologies in operation. We also provide certification training for Authorized Installers and Service Providers for the AdvanTex® Treatment System. SCG is a sustaining member of the Colorado Professionals in Onsite Wastewater (CPOW) and the Colorado Environmental Health Association (CEHA).
Ongoing Projects
SCG remains active in the onsite wastewater system industry throughout our service area. Working with the ParkCounty Health Department, we are monitoring a residential system installed to demonstrate nutrient removal and general treatment efficiency of an onsite wastewater system installed in weathered bedrock, at high altitude, and in a cold climate. We are also participating with the Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment, providing ongoing monitoring of several residential and commercial treatment systems specifically designed for nitrogen removal.
